Historic Hudson Part II

An eighty-seven page book that is similar to that of the book about the local industries and services. It covers the History of the Hudson Fire Department, the 100th Anniversary of the coming of the railroad to Hudson and Ice Cutting on the Ottawa River by the two huge companies: City Ice and Wilson Ice.
This last chapter describes how hardy men from Hudson and the Mohawk community of Kanesatake across the river worked side by side harvesting thousands of tons of ice each winter from 1908-1961 which was then shipped to Montreal to be sold on the streets of Montreal or used in the rail cars of the C.P.R.
The author also describes the early days of the Hudson Fire Department from its founding in 1948 until the early 1990s. Old photos of apparatus, the men and the fires are all included in this short history about the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department.
